The Knarr Ships were heavy freight ships.  These ships were used to carry merchants and were broader than the Longship.  The Knarr were usually made of pine rather than oak and were approximately 16.5 meters long and could have held up to 40 tons of merchandise. These ships were more dependent on sales than they were oars.  Knarr Ships had fewer oars that were primarily uses to help guide the ship
